5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT BUYING PEONY ROOTS

Peony roots are dug and shipped as bare roots in the fall when the plants are dormant and the buds are mature. Shipping generally starts in late September and continues into October. On rare occasions depending on weather and volume, shipping can continue into November. Planting the bare roots directly in the ground when you receive them in fall gives your peonies an excellent opportunity to develop its root system heading into the winter season.

Payment is taken at time of order. This is to reserve your peonies and prevent them from being sold to another buyer. Many of the highly desired peony varieties sell out well before bloom season.

Peonies are recommended for growing zones 3-8. Find your zone here: USDA Plant Hardiness Zones. We do not recommend growing peonies in zones 9-10. It’s just too warm. See site preparation and planting instructions HERE. (link elsewhere?)

When you receive your order, roots should be planted in the ground immediately. Peonies should not be grown in pots. We guarantee you will receive a healthy, live peony root ready for planting in the ground. If this is not the case, please ship the root back to Hidden Springs Peony Farm within 48 hours in its original packaging as received for a refund.

Crop Failures can sometimes happen. If the peony variety you ordered is no longer available because of a crop failure we will issue a refund. We do not substitute varieties.
